History of BBDM

BBDM has developed over two decades of experience working with autistic children. After leaving my job, I chose to work individually with two autistic girls for four hours, five days a week. During that year, I gained invaluable insights into autism, laying the foundation for BBDM. Spending extended periods with these children transformed my understanding of autism on every level. I had to reevaluate my therapeutic approaches from an autistic child's perspective, which involved reading books by autistic individuals, attending new classes, and delving into scientific papers. Additionally, one of the girls I worked with began typing and shared her experiences of being autistic, offering profound insights.

Simultaneously, Dr. Karanth's work on autism and the Communication DEALL program greatly influenced me, emphasizing the significance of a developmental, holistic, and multidisciplinary approach.

Over the subsequent decade, I worked closely with a select group of autistic children, refining and enhancing strategies. BBDM emerged as the culmination of this extensive experience.

My guiding philosophy reflects this ongoing journey: "There are things I know I know. There are things I know I don't know. And then there are things I don't know I don't know." Recognizing the vastness of the unknown is humbling yet essential in furthering our understanding of autism and its complexities. So BBDM remains a dynamic model, continuously evolving as I deepen my understanding of autism and the complexities of the human body.
